One way to get water is to filter the water. After being filtered is to boil the water. While boiling put in a cap full of bleach to sterilize the water. This is a safe way. Also bottle water is very important. There are water bags you can purchase to put water in. Please put your thoughts on this subject in this topic!!!

Everyone needs to have a few of their own water bottles/containers for collecting water for themselves if away from a base camp.
If there is not much water, there is a no-rinse body wash we used in the hospital to give patients sponge baths. It only takes a few drops of concentrate mixed with 1 cup of water to wash an entire adult body. We just need disposable wipes and that makes a great shower in an emergency.
There are some great compact water filters on the market which should always be in your car or bugout bag for an emergency.

We currently have bug out bags with antiseptic pads, fungal cream, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, batteries, granola bars, protein bars, rope, tarps, emergency candles, hand crank radios combo with flashlights, bleach tablets, camping gear, water filtration bottles, anti-diarrea medicine tons of other items in our bags, rope, lighters, waterproof matches. Each of us also have those hiking water bags and a gallon of water in jugs in our cars to fill the hiking water bags with. I agree that water is the one thing that you should have an abundance of. Over the last year, we have purchased an assortment of items that we think we can transport easily, should we need to bug out. Water is my main concern, obviously.

Wow , Michelle, we need to talk. Your list is inspiring. I am "one person." I certainly feel unprepared. Help....what should one person do? I am my only source of income.
